Empowering Women Now: Global Gender Equality

Topic: Redefining Global Gender Equality

Since the dawn of time, internationally, woman have had to fight to have access to maybe of the freedoms we have been granted today, even though we still have a long way to go. In this committee delegates will be asked to come up with a 5-year plan consisting of tangible solutions to solve various global gender inequality issues. With the use of modern technology, we will protect and expand gender rights for generations to come!

Background Guide

Co-Director: Genai Witter

Co-Director: Mariana Valencia

Co-Director: Mariana Valencia

Genai Witter is a senior, graduating in Summer 2023 with a Bachelors in Political Science, a minor in International Relations, and certificates in Pre-Law, Human Rights and Political Transitions, and Law, Ethics, and Society. Genai is a devout activist, with extensive political experience. She has served as the Director of Communications on a Florida House of Representatives campaign, has organized for various political organizations, and is the currently working on creating her own advocacy organization. On campus, Genai has been a proud delegate of the FIU MUN team since Spring 2022, she also is the Outreach Chair for a homelessness advocacy club called The BC Community Project, a member of The Women’s Network, and a member of the pre-law fraternity Phi Alpha Delta. Genai grew up in Ocala, Florida but successfully escaped the grip of small town life by coming to FIU. The issue of global gender equality is a topic that Genai is extremely passionate about. Her future plan to become an International Human Rights lawyer stemmed from her discovery of the horrific gender inequality that exists all over the globe. Genai believes that the intersectional disparities and oppressions of non-Western women are completely overlooked and thus, undermined, which is why she thinks that in order to bring about true gender equality, there needs to be global awareness about the rights of all women, from all nations. Genai’s favorite color is black, she is a first-generation Jamaican American, and a staunch human rights advocate. Genai is a true Taurus sun, who spends her free time binging tv shows, writing, practicing the ancient art of reading, eating pasta, playing with her cat “Stevie Nix”, or listening to music. Genai is a shameless Harry Styles and Lana Del Rey stan and she’s ecstatic to be a co-director for this incredible committee!
