Letter from the Secretary-General
Esteemed Delegates, Program Advisors, and Parents,
On behalf of the FIU Model UN team, I am proud to welcome you all to our 35th iteration of FIMUN, FIU’s top-ranked high school Model UN conference hosted at our beautiful Modesto Maidique Campus (MMC). Recognized as one of the best high school conferences by Best Delegate, we strive to continue providing an unforgettable experience for our delegates by bringing students together for engaging committees that push them to consider multiple perspectives and solutions to real-world and even current problems. Through our 14 committees that cover from historical struggles towards independence to bringing awareness for unrepresented peoples of the world, this upcoming FIMUN has a wide variety of topics that are sure to help our delegates on their journeys as global citizens and change-makers.
In this iteration, FIMUN’s theme is “From Rhetoric to Reality,” which is all about not just possible solutions, most of which have been seen before, but new outlooks on those solutions and the most practical ways in which different areas can bring those about. Our committees will present delegates with challenging notions that have often not received the action that those required or have a dire need for renewed discussion, and it will be in the hands of the delegates to come up with innovative approaches in committee. This will require collaboration and fresh takes, and we are excited to see delegates put those ideals forward in their work and debate as they meet new friends.
We hope every one of you will gain knowledge of the issues that FIMUN 35 will tackle, and that you are all inspired to take it into your future endeavors. As you put thought into your solutions and are encouraged to explore new ways of thinking about the world around you for committee, FIMUN wants to motivate you to do the same for issues in your communities.
